A trip to the Meating Room is sure to leave you feeling welcomed, well looked after and definitely well fed!

The café, bar and grill serves breakfast through to dinner, and is a family friendly space with a welcoming and casual gastropub dining experience.

The menu is seasonal, extensive and caters for all tastes – even the pickiest of eaters. Despite it’s carnivorous name the eatery also offers meat-free options for the herbivores out there.

As we enter the Meating Room we are warmly greeted by co-owners Robbi Khalil, Hamish Walker and Phillip Sacksady, and before no time we get straight down to business – to eat the delicious food of the Meating Room that all the locals have been raving about.

We’re off with a bang and out comes the Pork Ribs. Sticky and scrumptious, the ribs are juicy and the meat is just falling off the bone. Generously coated in a rich, sweet sauce, this dish is a stand-out on the Meating Room’s new menu.

The ribs are also served with the most perfectly salted and crispy roasted potatoes to have ever graced your taste buds and a creamy cabbage slaw that packs a flavour punch and crunch to balance out the dish.

Before we could sing our praises the chef excitingly comes out with the Smoked Salmon Salad, and you can see by the look on his face that his culinary passion echoes throughout every dish on the menu.

The Smoked Salmon Salad is a delightfully fresh and light dish, served with a pop of crispy capers, Spanish onion, cherry tomatoes, rocket, crispy gluten-free potato rosti and citrus lime aioli. We can just picture enjoying this dish with a cold beverage out on the Meating Room’s outdoor dining area, which capitalises on sunlight.

The classic Blueberry Pancakes also graces the Meating Room’s new menu. Reinvented with a modern twist, this dish is a stand-out favourite during breakfast time.

Beautifully presented, the pancakes are loaded with flavour – cut into the centre of the pancakes and you will find a tasty blueberry surprise! The dish is sprinkled with honeycomb and pistachio nuts for a contrast of texture, and drizzled with a generous amount of chocolate and maple syrup for extra decadence.

To add freshness and a citrus twist to the dish, blueberries, strawberries and orange segments also grace the plate. The vanilla bean ice cream is the hero of the dish adding a creamy texture and subtle sweetness. Finished with micro flowers and pretty finishes, the Blueberry Pancakes at the Meating Room is a beautiful, delicate dish sure to put a smile on your face.

The Meating Room also offers house-made Biltong, which is South African beef jerky. It’s dried here and takes about three to four days to make.
The venue is just as much about their beers as they are about a mean feed, with eight craft beers on tap including a local brew, Pact Beer. The beers are on regularly rotation so there’s always something new for you to try.

We hear that there will be the much-anticipated arrival of a big American smoker into the Meating Room kitchen so watch this space!
