If you’re looking for something to keep you occupied while you’re stuck at home, The Canberra Environment Centre is running free online sustainability workshops this month that can all be done in your backyard. If you’ve got kids, these are some fun family-friendly ways to spend your time.

 

Intro to Composting and Wormfarming – Tuesday 24 August, 12-1pm

If you’re interested in composting, learn about the different ways to do it at home and which one will suit you. In this session, they will be covering the basics of composting and wormfaming, as well as busting common myths and answering all your questions and troubleshooting any compost problems you might have.

Growing Seeds from Food at Home – Wednesday 25 August, 12-1pm

In this introductory workshop learn about how seeds grow, planting seeds and raising and transplanting seedlings at home. Then, have the confidence to grow veggies, herbs and other plants from seeds yourself.

Sustainability and your Stomach: Workshop for kids – Wednesday 25 August, 5-6pm

Focusing on how the choices of what we eat impact our world, join in an interactive workshop for primary school children and learn on the sustainability credentials of the ingredients that make up a burger. In the workshops kids will also learn why buying local and in season is important and how we could design a better burger for a better future. Then, make an artwork of your dream burger using recycled paper and magazines.

How to Fix a Bicycle Puncture – Thursday 26 August, 5-6pm

If you don’t know how to fix a bicycle puncture, join in this workshop led by a local bicycle mechanic and learn how to fix it at home. You will be taken through all the steps, from removing and installing a tyre, to how to patch a punctured inner tube.

Love Food Hate Waste – Tuesday 31 August, 6:30-7:30pm

Learn everything you need to know about fighting food waste, from shopping smarter to clever recipes ideas, storing food correctly and getting into meal planning. Once this workshop is complete feel fully equipped to save food and money in your household.
