Café MoMo has long been Belconnen’s convenient go-to for a guaranteed tasty feed, daily coffee injection and meeting place for students and workers alike. But for the rest of Canberra, the north-side secret is out, and OutInCanberra were lucky enough to experience it for ourselves to see what all the fuss was about.

A great place to start is breakfast. It’s hard to go past the Ultimate Brekkie Burger – the name says it all really. Double bacon, double egg, cheese, sausage, hash brown, tomato relish and aioli. Ahh, you had us at ‘double’. This extravaganza of a burger could quite possibly be the best hangover cure and also your worst nightmare at the same time. Sign us up! It’s almost too good to resist, and once that classic combination hits your taste buds they’ll jump into a frenzy. But beware, you’ll need a nap afterwards to recover from all the flavour.

For something a little lighter to start the day the Salmon Benedict is a hot pick, with two creamy poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, wilted spinach and smoked salmon on crunchy, toasted sourdough. The perfectly poached eggs atop the bed of ingredients bursts with oozy egg goodness which brings together all the textures of the dish seamlessly, leaving a velvety smooth taste that lingers long after last bite.

On to lunch, and we were treated to a Pumpkin and Quinoa Salad which was refreshing on the palate. Light balsamic vinaigrette is tossed evenly through a marriage of bite-sized roast pumpkin pieces, crumbled feta, baby spinach, tomato, Spanish onion and toasted pine nuts. A popular dish on the menu, it’s a light and healthy choice that packs a flavour punch.

From the list of seven burgers on offer, a stand-out was the Tropicana, with sweet pineapple, crispy chicken rubbed in herbs and spices, bacon, avocado, lettuce and chipotle mayo. Like all great burgers, it comes accompanied by beer battered fries and is our recommendation for a guaranteed satisfying meal. Imagine this with a beer in hand on a sunny afternoon. Sounds like the perfect pair!

A classic is the Tempura Battered Barramundi Fillets – your traditional fish ‘n’ chips with a twist. Balanced on a tower of golden beer battered chips and beside a cluster of mixed leaf salad and wasabi-infused aioli, the fish fillets are soft on the inside and crisp on the outside, and are sure to whisk you back to that holiday at the coast.

Fresh and flavoursome, Café MoMo is the perfect place to meet throughout week. Open Monday to Friday 7:30am-4pm and Saturday 8am-1pm, next time you’re looking for a new place to dine or find yourself stuck on where to go, make Café MoMo your destination. You never know, you might even find a new local!
