SAFIA ‘Story’s Start Or End’ Listening Party – Fri 9

To celebrate the release of SAFIA’s new album ‘Story’s Start or End’ (out Aug 9) the band will be hosting an exclusive listening party at BentSpoke Cannery in Mitchell. In addition to being among the first in the world to hear the new album, fans will be treated to a DJ set from the band and complimentary food and drinks. To coincide with the launch of their new album, SAFIA have teamed up with Canberra’s BentSpoke Brewery for an exclusive beer made with the power of music – ‘Resonate’ – which will be served on the night. El Loco Night at Teddy Picker’s – Fri 9

Join Teddy’s and the crew from Coffo Records for a classic fiesta. They will put on some snacks and maybe a cheeky cocktail and let the tunes flow from 6pm until 10pm. Round up the crew and enjoy some local tunes paired with some tasty food! This is a free event.

Friends Trivia at Limelight Cinemas – Fri 9

Limelight Cinemas present FRIENDS Trivia on the big screen! After a hugely successful FRIENDS Trivia last year, it’s finally time to gather your friends together and head to Limelight Cinemas to prove that you are the ultimate fan! Questacon After Dark: Tequila! The Science of Mezcal – Sat 9 – Sun 10

As part of National Science Week, Questacon’s amateur drink enthusiasts are back with an adults-only exploration of tequila! From 7-9pm, enjoy a selection of tastings while we explore agave-based spirits, and try to separate the fact from the fiction. What is the difference between mezcal and tequila? What does tequila have to do with asparagus? Is it really a stimulant? And who put a worm in here and why? This event is strictly 18+ and bookings are essential. Book here. 

Canberra Brick Expo – Sat 10

Brick Expo is an entertaining and interesting exhibition of rare and unique LEGO® creations by interstate and local collectors and modellers. Hundreds of static, moving and robotic models in themes including: Star Wars™, Trains, Planes, Space Ships, Racing Cars, Monuments and Sculptures. It is held at the The Hellenic Club of Canberra in Woden. As a not-for-profit event all proceeds will assist our major charity PaTCH to purchase much needed medical equipment for Paediatrics at the Canberra Hospital. From 9am – 4.30pm each day. Galaxy Club Retro at Casino Canberra – Sat 10

If you didn’t feel like you were livin’ on a prayer before, you may so now. Because the much-loved Galaxy Club Retro is making a comeback for one night only. Loyal patrons of the past and new-comers can prepare to be blown away as the Casino takes us back in time to the original retro club of the city. In combination with the throwback music, the bar will serve up beverages equally as memorable. The reunion party will lift off with cocktail slushies flowing and the infamous range of cocktails that were served at the club over the years. Party-goers are encouraged to dress in their best retro gear so get ready to revive those flared pants, spandex, denim and fluros. Party kicks off at 9pm.

Truffles and Wine Long Lunch at Chifley’s Bar & Grill – Sat 10

Chifley’s Bar & Grill alongside Macenmist Black Truffles and Giesen Wines present their long lunch at 12-3pm. Executive Head Chef Saju has created a menu filled with black gold, creativity and local produce to partner with the rich flavours of Marlborough wines handcrafted by wine maker of the year – Nikolai St George at Giesen Winery. Join the team in the sun drenched terrace for rose on arrival followed by a three course share style lunch with twice cooked pork belly, duck confit and creamy truffle mash; each matched with a wine from Giesen Winery. Guyy Performs at Old Canberra Inn – Sat 10

The Old Canberra Inn is very excited to welcome Guyy, winner of the 2013 MAMA Award for best Blues, Roots, and World album and two-time winner of The Australian National Busking Champion (2013, 2014), to their stage this winter. This is a free event from 2-5pm so bring the family along.
