Now open at Verity Lane Market, South American kitchen La Cocina Pura is bringing new and exciting flavours to the heart of the city.

Serving traditional dishes like paella, empanada, fish tacos and barbeque asado, owners are determined to showcase all the freshness and pureness found in South American cooking.

“Our food is unique as there is nothing like it in the city, so we hope to bring new flavours and tastes to our customers,” says Owner and Head Chef, Mario Gonzalez.

Perhaps the highlight of the menu, the seafood paella is presented with fresh prawns and mussels over steaming aromatic rice infused with delicious spices.

“Paella was originally farmers’ and farm labourers’ food, cooked by the workers over a wood fire for the lunchtime meal. Now we share it at the table with good friends and family,” says Gonzalez.

Growing up engulfed in the South American culture in his hometown of Chile, Gonzalez discovered a passion for cooking at the age of around 10 years old.

“I’ve been a chef since 2012 and have worked in catering ever since, including running my own successful catering business ‘Latino Catering’,” Gonzalez explains.

“Now, I have the freedom to pursue my passion, and my dream has come true to open my own restaurant, Pure Kitchen, also known as La Cocina Pura.”

La Cocina Pura opens just in time for Verity Lane Market’s extended operating hours, which now include Tuesday and Wednesday lunch service from 12pm.

Tuesdays will now also play host to Trivia Nights, thanks to Fame trivia, kicking off from 6pm on the bar side of Verity Lane. It’s free to enter and includes bar vouchers for first, second, and second last, as well prizes for spot questions. Bookings for trivia can be made online using the regular booking portal.

Verity Lane Market is open for lunch Tuesday – Saturday from 12pm to 2pm, and dinner from 5pm until late.
