Chris Lucas, responsible for some of Melbourne and Sydney’s most innovative and loved dining institutions, has announced plans to open his first restaurant in Canberra.

A Mediterranean concept, Carlotta will open in Canberra Centre’s Scotts Crossing precinct in Spring.

Adding to Lucas’ lineup of successful restaurants including Chin Chin, Grill Americano and Kisumé, as well as the transformation of the 80 Collins Street precinct in Melbourne (home to his revered Society), his Canberra venture is set to have a big presence in the vibrant precinct.

“I’ve witnessed from afar how exciting and energetic the Canberra food scene has become, and I can’t wait to open Carlotta and work with the incredible array of local producers, growers and hospitality talent,” says Lucas.

Working alongside investment company QIC (Queensland Investment Corporation), Carlotta will be Lucas’ second collaboration with the company following the 80 Collins Street project.

“QIC share my vision for working with like-minded creatives to develop exciting precincts with world-class restaurants and bars that set the benchmark for Australian design excellence. Our last collaboration at 80 Collins Street which saw the creation of the stunning Society Dining Room, Lillian Brasserie, and high octane Yakimono is a testament to our shared vision of growing cities through experiences,” says Lucas.

Known for his signature focus on timeless design, contemporary menu offerings and vibrant energy, Carlotta’s concept has and will be specifically fashioned for Canberra, carving its own identity.

“We are so thrilled to partner with Chris Lucas and Lucas Restaurants to bring one of his visionary, acclaimed restaurants to Canberra Centre,” says General Manager of Canberra Centre, Gary Stewart.

“We envision that Carlotta’s presence within our vibrant Scotts Crossing precinct will serve to revitalise the city centre, infusing even more energy and vitality into the night time economy of the CBD,” he says.

Construction of the new restaurant is underway, with further details around the opening date to be shared ahead of the spring 2024 opening.
