The 2021 People’s Choice Awards has kicked off with a bang! And we have loved seeing all the votes coming in with people’s favourite venues and events.
While we wait in anticipation for the new winners to be announced, let’s recap our 2020 main category winners and shine a spotlight on their incredible work and achievements.
Favourite Café: A Bite To Eat
Proudly open for 16 years at the Chifley shops, A Bite To Eat has become many locals go-to café for the best classic and contemporary eats. Open 7 days a week, whether it’s a morning coffee, brunch with friends or a cocktail in the courtyard, A Bite To Eat welcomes you. Doing more than just feeding Canberran’s, they also do their part in supporting the community. Starting ‘brunch with pride’, the café donates $1 from every meal sold during a range of months throughout the year to a different charity.

Favourite Restaurant: Akiba
Most Canberran’s one way or another have had the opportunity to dine at AKIBA. With bright neon lighting and funky interior features, the Japanese/Korean fusion restaurant is known for its unbelievable street food style. With mountains of fried chicken, rows of baos and shots of sake filtering around each table, the restaurant is filled with conversation and good times. During lockdown, AKIBA was at the forefront of restaurants trying new and innovative ways to get their delicious food to locals at home and was working around the clock to get their orders across all of Canberra and parts of NSW.

Favourite Nightlife: Kokomos
A frequent venue for those big celebrations and night owls, Kokomos bought the tropical summer vibes to Canberra every month of the year, through refreshing fruit cocktails and trans-pacific eats. After a sad closure this year, making way for new adventures from the Harvac team, Kokomos may be gone but won’t be forgotten.

Favourite Event & Attraction: Floriade Reimagined
After many events on our calendars were cancelled in 2020, we just couldn’t bear to have a year without our annual spring festival Floriade. While we couldn’t see the beautiful blooms in all their glory, Floriade: Reimagined was born and saw one million bulbs planted on a trail through the ACT. Bringing some light and colour to everyone’s lives, even if only in small doses.

Handcrafting fine spirits from only raw essential ingredients that boast flavours of our diverse region, The Canberra Distillery has an incredible range of gin, vodka and liqueurs. Putting Canberra on the map for fine spirits, the small batch distillery has bought home several silver and bronze awards.
