Your guide to Australia Day in Canberra

Australia Day in the Park 

The day starts with The Great Aussie Day Breakfast and continues most of the day with entertainment and activities for the whole family.

Ensuring the whole family and the little Aussies among us are entertained, Sing Australia will grace the stage with beautiful choir songs, and there will be a mega Nerf Zone, jumping castle and face painting.

While your there, wander down to Rond Terrace to watch the National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony. 

 There will also be an impressive flyover and 21-gun salute.

From 4pm, join the celebrations at Regatta Point and settle in for a concert headlined by British India, supporting performances include the Choir of Hard Knocks, Young Monks and Hands Like Houses.

 

Australia Day in Yass Valley

The Rotary Club of Yass will be providing breakfast at Yass Coronation Park from 7am.

The Yass Valley Australia Day Citizen Awards recognise outstanding individuals and groups who make a real contribution and difference to our community, and will be announced in the park at 9.15am.

Entry is free.

 

Open House: Australia Day Picnic

Celebrate Australia Day at Lanyon Homestead with its Open House: Australia Day Picnic event from 10am to 4pm.

Our tip is to pack your own picnic and rug to cool down in the stunning gardens and relax on the lawns. Or take all the stress out of planning and enjoy lunch at the Lanyon Café.

While you’re there, also discover Canberra’s rural history with a free tour of the homestead. Entry is 
free and bookings are not required unless intending to dine at the Lanyon Café.

 

Aus Day Festival: A World of History and Culture

Taking place from 10am to 2pm at the National Museum of Australia, Aus Day Festival: A World of History and Culture celebrates the many cultures of Australia and the world.

Enjoy music, dance, demonstrations, workshops, games, craft and family fun. The festival is inspired by the exhibition A History of the World in 100 Objects from the British Museum.

Some activities involve a small charge. Exhibition entry fees apply.

 

National Carillon: Special Concert for Australia Day

Head to Aspen Island from 12.30pm to 1.20pm to enjoy the sunshine and a concert with real Australian flavour played on the bells of the National Carillon.

In this special concert for Australia Day, carillonist Leonard Weiss will perform folk songs, reflections and special arrangements of Australian pop and rock including classic tune, It’s a Long Way to the Top.

 

Australia Day Cocktails at the Museum Bar

Celebrate Australia Day in style with a cocktail party at the Museum Bar at the National Museum of Australia, from 7pm to 11pm.

Watch the fireworks with the best lakeside view in town, while enjoying some great food, drinks and entertainment. The museum’s blockbuster exhibition A History of the World in 100 Objects from the British Museum will also be open for you to enjoy.

This event is over 18s only. Numbers are strictly limited.

 

Australia Day Fireworks Spectacular

From 9pm the sky above Lake Burley Griffin come to life with a dazzling fireworks and pyrotechnic display set to a truly Aussie soundtrack.

The best vantage points are Regatta Point, the lawns of the National Library or Rond Terrace. Be sure to get there early to enjoy the entertainment and great atmosphere.

Pack your picnic, a rug and enjoy the range of entertainment on offer at the spectacular fireworks display.

This event is a must-do and a fantastic way to celebrate what’s great about being an Aussie!
