There are so many ways to incorporate sustainability into your everyday lifestyle, from using a reusable coffee cup to bringing your own bags to the supermarket but did you know that a significant percentage of your ecological footprint comes from your diet? What you eat, where it comes from and how you dispose of any packaging or leftovers makes a big difference to the planet. Here are 6 upcoming workshops full of mouth-watering meals, reusable food wraps and composting tips that are not only good for you, but the planet too.

1. Making Beeswax Wraps

Beeswax wraps are a fresh and funky alternative to using cling wrap in your kitchen. In this interactive workshop Annette Boyd will guide you through making your own beeswax wraps to take home. You’ll also learn how to clean and maintain your wraps so that they last for years to come.

2. Intro to Bokashi Composting

Worried about your food scraps? Why not let some microbes take care of that! Bokashi composting uses a special preparation of microbes to break down your food scraps. This makes it ideal for small spaces such as apartments or office kitchens. Bokashi expert Rosemary Ryan will show you how to make your very own microbial Bokashi culture that you can take home!

3. Creating a Garden for the Canberra Climate

Are you making the most of your garden in Canberra’s unique climate? Are you confused by which plants to choose that can cope with frosty cold winters as well as hot dry summers? In this workshop Benjamin Taylor, from Good Ground Horticulture, will teach you how to set up your garden so that it thrives year round, even in Canberra’s harsh climate.

4. “Just Add Flour and Water’ Sourdough class

In this class you’ll learn how to make gorgeous sourdough breads as well as strategies for incorporating sourdough-making into your daily life. You’ll take home fresh baked some dough as well as some of wholefood, fermenting and probiotic guru Holly Davis’ special starter to begin your sourdough adventures.

5. Winter Warming Wholefoods Class

This class is all about incorporating wholefoods and ferments into your diet using techniques that ensure you get the most flavour and warming effect out of winter produce while maintaining nutrition and digestive health.

In the class Holly Davis will serve up a range of meals incorporating wholefoods and ferments. You’ll taste mouth-watering dishes such as toasted baked brown rice with shiitake mushroom gravy, sautéed mustard leaves and shiitake celery pickles. Do not miss this delicious day of food and ferments!

6. Cheese Making and Appreciation Master Class (Blue Cheese/Persian Feta)

How much do you love cheese? Demonstrate your love and join Southern Highlands artisan cheesemakers Michael and Cressida McNamara from award winning Pecora Dairy for a day of fun and relaxed, hands on cheese making. The day includes a masterclass in sensory cheese analysis where you will be stepped through a tasting of the world’s best cheeses with wine pairings. You will make and take home Blue Cheese, Persian Feta and Mozzarella. Class price includes some cheese baskets to get you started.
