Canberra’s newest butchery, 56 Degrees is taking a new approach to purchasing meat. Operating through an online platform, ACT and surrounding regions can now enjoy Australia’s highest quality and best value meats with the convenience of same-day delivery.

Starting as a small passion project between friends and family (jokingly called ‘meat club’), Co-founders Hesh Sandi, Mick Tonna and James Forman were regularly sourcing exclusive and high-end cuts directly from the country’s best producers and saw a gap in the Canberra Market.

“Everyone loved meat club, getting together to marvel at the beautiful cuts and share a feed, good times. Eventually, we realised that there’s something special in this and decided to extend meat club to the broader community” says Hesh.

Now, with a production facility in Fyshwick, 56 Degrees sources those same quality products with complete transparency and traceability.

“When you order from 56 Degrees you know exactly what you are getting. You can see the product’s origin, brand, farming practices, production methods and you can easily check that it’s actually good value,” says Mick.

Included in their list of brands, 56 Degrees stock grass-fed beef from Cape Grim in Tasmania, Gundagai Lamb, Robbins Island Tasmanian Wagyu, Enviroganic Chicken in NSW and Borrowdale Free Range Pork from Byron Bay.

This includes premium cuts such as tomahawk steak, rack of lamb, flat iron steak, burger patties, beef short ribs, brisket, chicken breast and an incredible wagyu.

With a constantly evolving product list, Hesh says, “changing things weekly means we are always sourcing the best value available. It helps keep prices down and we can make sure that there’s always something new and exciting on offer.”

“We have spent decades in the hospitality industry and built these relationships over time. When we started ‘meat club’ we would call the suppliers to discuss the best products available. It was great, they loved explaining the care and dedication that goes into producing top-quality meat. I think they enjoyed speaking to people that shared their passion for quality rather than just searching for a bargain,” says James.

Keeping buyers’ convenience in mind, every delivery comes in insulated, chilled boxes that keep cold for at least 8 hours, meaning it can be safely left at your door if you aren’t home.

Offering speedy delivery for those last-minute cravings, orders placed before 10am can enjoy same-day delivery or next-day delivery from Tuesday to Saturday. Plus, they also offer a complete quality guarantee and will refund or replace any product you’re not entirely satisfied with immediately.

“We feel that Canberra is a special market and simply overlooked, under-serviced and underestimated by the big interstate players. Our dining scene is incredible and we now have some of the best producers in the country. So, we think Canberrans will get excited about having access to the country’s finest meats too,” says Mick.

Intending to not only service hungry locals, 56 also supports local events and groups including the upcoming Bungendore Beer and BBQ Festival in September.
