Canberra will see the best wintery fun for three weeks over June and July. Located in Garema Place, a fabulous festival including open-air ice skating with falling snow, as well as a super fun real ice slide, giant blow up slide and jumping castle will see the precinct transformed.

Skating At Festival is a pop-up ice skating rink set up in iconic and picturesque locations around Australia, and this winter it’s hit the nation’s capital at Garema Place in the heart of Civic.

Set against the backdrop of the CBD and with the rink festooned with twinkling lights, Skating At Garema Place Canberra will provide residents and visitors with the perfect winter social activity. This family-friendly event is ideal for people of all ages and skill levels. Whether you are new to the ice or a pro, Skating At Garema Place Canberra has something for everybody.

“We’re very excited to be bringing the Skating At concept to Canberra. Although Canberra can certainly be chilly, for many people this will be their first experience of ice and snow,” Skating At co-owner Rod Stoller says.

“For others, it will be a chance for them to re-live some of the fun snow and ski experiences they’ve had on holidays without the added pressure of international travel and the huge expenses associated with this.”

The exciting activation offers an entertainment precinct for the whole family – an extraordinary outing these school holidays. It’s also the perfect activity to spoil that special someone with a unique date night experience and great excuse to get all your mates together for a fun adventure on the ice!

“There is something completely magical about ice skating whilst in the open air with falling snow dusting your hair – blink and you’ll feel like you’re at the Rockefeller Center in New York or Hyde Park in London,” Rod adds.

CEO of In The City Canberra Jane Easthope, said she’s thrilled to be sponsoring and supporting the event.

“Bringing an outdoor ice rink to Canberra is something we’re very passionate about,” she says.

“There’s no better location than the CBD for the rink. Families and groups of friends can come and get their skates on before or after getting dinner or drinks.”

This pop-up ice rink is only in town for a limited time. Don’t miss out!

ICE SKATING TIPS!

  • Don’t worry if you don’t own your own pair of ice skates, your ticket includes ice hockey rental skates. Please keep in mind that rental skates may not be as comfortable as your own skates.
  • Be sure to bring an extra pair of socks with you to the ice rink. The extra pair of socks should be a bit thicker than your normal socks as they will give you more hold and padding inside your ice skates. A pair of knee-high ski socks would be perfect.
  • Bring a change of clothes if conditions are windy. All outdoor ice rinks are also subject to a thin layer of water across the surface of the ice.
