With the traditional Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich unable to go ahead this year due the restrictions of Covid-19, Canberrans still have a variety of fun options to celebrate the German harvest festival across the capital.

BentSpoke

Bentspoke Brewpub along with the Cannery in Mitchell will be hosting Oktoberfest this year from the 29th of September through to the 4th of October. With four specially brewed German style beers paired with food specials include a twist on tradition with a pork knuckle katsu sandwich. Those up to the challenge can attempt the Bentwurst (currywurst) heat challenge with the winner earning a free beer. Adding to the authentic German experience will be music from the Masters of Oompah and German Music Show Band.

The Bavarian

With German heritage dating back over 40 years the Bavarian provides an authentic dining experience to over 20 restaurants. Renowned for its imported German beers the Bavarian boasts an impressive range of brews including Löwenbrau, Hofbräu Dunkel and more. The Bavarian is also offering a feasting menu which includes pretzels, pork-knuckle, pork belly, German sausages, schnitzel, sauerkraut, red cabbage, mashed potato and häus-made apple strudel with ice-cream. In addition to this the Bavarian will also kick off their monthly variety of special schnitzels with the Oktoberfest schnitzel.

Harmonie German Club

Finally, as one of Canberra’s oldest community clubs established in 1962, the Harmonie German Club are moving their traditional festival back to inside the club at Narrabundah. Running a week of activities from the 26th of October to the 1st of November, Harmonie is offering the same Oktoberfest fun, just a little different. Knuckles restaurant provides a full range of German food as well as an extensive selection of German beers.
