This month, Thoroughbred Park announced twelve local charities to be a part of the inaugural Canberra Community Chest event on Saturday 25 November.

Featuring an eight-race program, Thoroughbred Park has donated a generous pool of $50,000, with the winning charity partner whose designated horse takes first place to receive a substantial $25,000.

While eleven of the charities were carefully selected by an Independent Committee, this year the twelfth will be chosen through a ‘People’s Choice’ nomination. The list of remaining eligible local charities is currently open to the public to vote on Thoroughbred Park’s website.

The other eleven chosen include ACT Volunteer Brigades Association, Belconnen Magpies Football Club, Canberra Hospital Foundation, Good Omen Goodeze Inc, Lifeline Canberra, Riding for the Disabled of the ACT Incorporated (Pegasus), Roundabout Canberra, The Daniela Dwyer Foundation, The Ricky Stuart Foundation, Western District Rugby Union Football Club and Win the day Charity.

Representing causes that are close to the hearts of Canberrans, a portion of ticket sales from the event will also go directly to these organisations, ensuring a meaningful impact on the community.

“This day is not just about racing; it’s about coming together as a community to support the charities that make Canberra a better place for us all. We are proud to contribute to these worthy causes and invite everyone to join us for a day of feel-good fun,” says CEO of Thoroughbred Park, Darren Pearce.

In addition to the races, visitors can unwind at the Underground Spirits Gin Lawn, revel in the TAB Garden Party, or enjoy more family-friendly fun such as live music, pony rides, face painting and an Instagrammable photo wall.
