The stunning Marion precinct has finally announced its open date, and the good news is, it’s this week! Open for private events since late 2021, lust-worthy images began circulating social media and had Canberrans eagerly wondering when they would get to experience the exquisite venue for themselves. Well, from Tuesday 6 September you can, as the restaurant will officially open seven days a week for high tea.

Open just in time for our beloved spring festival Floriade, The Marion restaurant and sister venue Walter Café, which opened earlier this year, are perfectly situated near the entrance to the festival on Lake Burley Griffin.

Bought to you by Sydney’s high tea connoisseurs and the culinary team behind The Tea Room QVB, The Palace, Gunners’ Barracks, Sergeants’ Mess, Dunbar House and The Blue Room, it’s set to be Canberra’s most decadent high tea experience.

Guests can enjoy a delectable selection of petit fours, finger sandwiches, sweet and savoury pastries and scones with house-made preserves and clotted cream, all prepared daily and designed by award-winning pâtissier and executive head chef Rob Crichton. Specialty Ronnefeldt teas, champagne, sparkling wine and cocktails will also be available to indulge in whilst soaking up sweeping views of the lake.

“We are thrilled to be opening high tea at The Marion. High tea in iconic locations is what we do best. Located alongside the National Canberra Exhibition, we hope to help drive tourism to Canberra by offering customers the unique experience of enjoying high tea, overlooking Lake Burley Griffin,” says Co-owner and Sydney hospitality veteran, Manny Spinola.

Named in honour of Marion Mahony, Walter Burley Griffin’s wife, and her creative contribution to our wonderful city, the elegant interior has taken cues from various elements of the building’s original mid-century architecture, and so too early sketches by Marion herself.

Initially serving high tea from 10am-4pm, the restaurant is also set to launch an a la carte lunch menu and deck later this year. To check out the menu or make a booking visit https://themarion.com.au/restaurant/
