I think all locals are in agreeance that the first quarter of 2019 Canberra has really turned up the heat. Not a weekend goes by without a list of things to see, do and eat in the Capital. This weekend a big fat red circle outlines our calendars on Saturday 16 March for us not to forget to visit undoubtedly one of the biggest celebrations all year – Hit104.7’s Skyfire.

When I was a kid Skyfire weekend meant a visit from my cousins from Sydney and it also meant a dash for the car while the last fireworks were being let off over Lake Burley Griffin, so Dad could beat the rush of traffic home. Nowadays, a group of friends set up camp (as many Canberrans do) with a picnic rug and snacks to enjoy while the sky lights up.

Skyfire is a part of the Enlighten Festival, and both continue to grow alongside this great city. Unless you’re a scared pup at home, for locals this is our favourite and largest single day free event of the festival.

Ned & Josh will fuel off the excitement from 6pm at Regatta Point, while they take you on a spectacular journey as they host the event live.

The skies above our city will fill with Aerial displays of the finest fireworks in Australia, set to a spectacular 20-minute soundtrack. Samantha Jade will headline an amazing night of fun and sparkles from 7pm.

Between 6-7pm there’s fun to be had with the Australian Federation Guard display, the Royal Australian Navy Taipan Helicopter, Australia’s Federation Guard display and RAAF C17 Low Flyover. And, there will be a free nerf arena set up at Patrick White Lawns to run around and enjoy while waiting for the fireworks to go off with a bang.

Food vendors will be scattered around the main stage at Regatta Point & Barrine Drive, Patrick White Lawns, Queen Elizabeth Terrace and Round Terrances. Expect treats from some of our favourite local eateries such as Grease Monkey, Akiba and Kokomo’s, see more.

After 31 spectacular years, Hit104.7’s Skyfire will close the magic of the Enlighten Festival, an event not to be missed!
