Dining at Con’s Steak and Seafood restaurant in Mawson reminds you of an old friend; cozy, warm with European red-checkered tablecloths.

We arrived to a friendly waitress and the restaurant owner, Michael. Immediately graced with menus and drinks, the insightful waitress suggested some of the favorites to us: Seafood Crepe for the Ladies and the Seafood Basket for the Gents.

We began with a mixture of delightful seafood entrees, a trio of fresh oysters (Kilpatrick, Mornay and Natural), Japanese scallops (Scallops with Japanese mustard and rice) and Garlic prawns. The oysters were fresh and generous in size, the scallops were lovely and flavorsome with a hint of mustard and the prawns were unbeatable.

The staff suggested a matching house white wine, Chenet Sauvignon Blanc which was crisp and complementing.

We ordered the Western Australian Lobster which was covered in a rich and tasty mornay sauce. We then moved onto the suggested Seafood crepe (Crepe in Neapolitan sauce and parmesan) which was unique and tasty with a generous amount of seafood.

The best meal of the evening was the Beef Tournedos (Prawn, scallop, and mushroom sauce). Easy to cut, soft and tender, this steak was perfect in every way.

We moved onto the Profiteroles which were a perfect end to a lovely evening.

The large bar stocks a generous selection of wine, beer, liqueurs and cocktails.

An established Canberra favourite from 1972 and receiving a face lift in 2011, Con’s Steak and Seafood has a large following of dedicated regulars. Having presented fresh mouth-watering seafood, home made desserts and fine steak for more than forty years, Con’s Steak and Seafood restaurant is still very impressive.
