Transit Bar was filled to the brim last Thursday night. A sold out crowd packed the venue eager to see Brisbane’s alternative electronic artist and producer Danny Harley as his experimental solo project – The Kite String Tangle!

The night started off with Sydney’s Nicole Millar, an amazing singer who brought us her sweet voice together with her DJ who injected electro sounds into the mix of her sweet yet quirky sound. She was amazing and reminded me a bit of both Lorde and Birdy!

Next was Kilter, who played some of his killer mix-ups of different genres including old and new beats. It was a fresh change to the usual tunes you hear warming up the dance floor! By then most of the sold-out crowd had showed up and you could tell they were thinking the same thing.

Just when I thought seeing Kite String live was as star-struck as I was going to get on a Thursday night, RÜFÜS walked in. Yes… the RÜFÜS! The group from Sydney was here to play their indie dance sounds live at the ANU Bar as part of O-Week and thought they’d pop down for the gig just like the rest of us! It’s great to see musicians supporting each other!

Finally the guy we had all been waiting for, The Kite String Tangle made it up to the stage and the mosh-pit was formed. He played the songs we all knew – including Commotion that has seen him secure gigs at musical festivals around the nation over the last year. After taking a picture of the crowd on his iPhone, we heard a fantastic cover of Lorde’s Tennis Courts and then he finished his set with a great performance of favourite Given the Chance!

We hear Danny is about to finish another week or so of shows around the nation before heading off to untangle the kite strings in the USA! He is definitely an artist we can expect BIG things from and can’t wait to see what comes out of his new adventure!

The thing I love about Transit Bar is that you not only rub shoulders with artists you grow to love on triple J*, the atmosphere is just plain cool!

*There is no guarantee everyone will have the chance to rub shoulders with artists from triple J.
