You weren’t anywhere on Saturday 21st of July unless you were on the streets of Kingston at the Belgian Beer Café enjoying the festivities, sounds, smells and sights of National Belgian Day.

Complete with a traditional horse and carriage, the venue was packed with jolly patrons, the clinking of beer mugs and the tantalizing smell of marinated mussels.

A talented jazz trio set the scene with heavenly tunes, spilling their sounds out onto the leafy Jardine Street sidewalk.

A traditional kilo pot of mussels was the house favourite on the day. The Black Mussels are sourced from the cool waters of Southern Pacific Ocean and the team served it up with beer battered fries and special mayonnaise.

Belgian waffles with vanilla bean ice cream and toasted almonds was the blackboard desert special and tasted even better than it sounds.

The ‘I’ll have what their having’ attitude passed on table to table till nearly everyone in the house was enjoying the heavenly Belgian tastes and washing it down with a Stella Artois.

Nothing says National Belgian Day like a really great beer and the Belgian Beer Café with its mile long list of special imported beers never disappoints.

On the day the team began many love affairs by serving up the mildly caramel tasting ‘Kwak’ in traditionally extravagant glasses. Originating from the small town of Brabant the crew at Belgian Beer Café make it the same delicious way it was brewed in 1791.

After a full stomach it was time for a tour around town in a traditional style horse and carriage. The cold winter wind ceased for a moment as the horses trotted along the sun drenched streets of Kingston with squealing patrons in tow.
