Catering to a broad spectrum of preferences is essential for a hotel restaurant, and it’s something that Diplomat Bar & Grill has strived to achieve since its inception.

Located in the Ramada Diplomat by Wyndham hotel in Griffith, while its proximity to the Parliamentary Triangle makes it the ideal accommodation for travelling politicians, it’s also minutes away from tourist attractions such as the Australian War Memorial, Questacon and the National Gallery. So, whether you’re exhausted from a busy day at work or tired from a jam-packed schedule of sightseeing, being able to conveniently dine just downstairs from your room and enjoy a delicious meal rather than having to go out is the perfect option.

Undergoing a seasonal change, Diplomat has once again changed its menu, with a wonderful array of dishes that reflect a rich tapestry of international flavours, with particular Italian and Spanish influence.

For dinner, diners can anticipate crowd-pleasing entrees including fried calamari and mushroom fritters to elegant mains such as salmon with a lemon caper butter sauce and smoked BBQ pork ribs with seasonal accompaniments such as grilled broccolini, roasted cherry tomato truss, roasted chat potatoes, fresh salads, berries and an array of herbs.

“Each bite is a journey through carefully selected elements that contribute to a delicious and satisfying dining experience,” says Head Chef, Marilyn Ponce.

“One of my favourite dishes is our calamari. It’s a smaller dish which suits me, but it’s a perfect blend of crispiness and flavour. When I’m starving though, I’ll choose our in-house 10-hour smoked pork ribs with coleslaw salad, grilled corn and smoked butter. And for dessert, it’s always our house-made Crème Brulé with biscotti and fresh berries,” she says.

Ensuring the produce is less travelled by utilising local business owners is also important to the restaurant team.

“We take immense pride in our commitment to supporting the local community. Our menu exclusively features locally sourced products, and everything on our menu is seasonal and crafted from scratch,” says Ponce.

If you want to sample multiple dishes, opting for the set menu is always a clear winner, especially when enjoyed in conjunction with the curated wine pairing.

“It’s a harmonious blend of culinary expertise and affordability, ensuring that everyone leaves with a happy, full stomach,” says Ponce.

Beyond the delicious breakfast and dinner menus, dining downstairs offers the complete experience. Guests may tempt themselves to an afternoon drink at the bar during happy hour, afternoon board games with the family, or perhaps a nightcap in one of the cosy lounge areas.

Open for breakfast and dinner every day, with 24/7 room service, Diplomat Bar & Grill and the Ramada Hotel is a wonderful option for travellers of all kinds, who find themselves in Canberra.
