Local Health Performance Centre, Eighty8 have teamed up with YMCA to host Canberra’s biggest virtual community and help to get everyone moving and motivated this Saturday 28 August, 8.30am.

Keep Canberra Moving is designed to support and improve mental health, get locals active and send an important message that we are all in it together. The free event will run for an hour and be a mix of HIIT and Pilates training by qualified Eighty8 coaches. All movements will be body weight and no equipment is required to join in.  The session format is designed to suit all training levels.

In addition to live streaming the workout we will be streaming local DJ Reinhold to boost your weekend energy.

Gyms and fitness studios play a central role in the day-to-day life of many Canberrans, offering physical, emotional, and mental health support. Since the ACT lockdown began Eighty8 Fitness pivoted their classes online and made them available free of charge to the wider community.

“Gym closures and lockdown has effected Canberrans in many ways. We know too well the toll it has on health and emotional wellbeing, but the broader impact is decreased motivation, loss of routine and lack of connection and community,” Eighty8 Health Director, Tyler Stevens says.

“Eighty8 has always placed community and culture first and that has played a major role in keeping our members connected and active. We want to share some positivity from our community with the rest of Canberra to ensure better long-term outcomes for all,” he says.

Keep Canberra Moving invites all Canberrans of any ages and fitness levels to join in on the community spirit; especially encouraging youth most affected by the current lockdown.

YMCA are heavily invested in Canberra’s younger generation with an ambition to ‘empower, connect and support youth.’ With an aligned goal to keep Canberra’s mind and body strong and build resilient people, YMCA have jumped on board to the Keep Canberra Moving event.
