City Renewal Authority, ACT Government and Show Pony Events are bringing Canberra’s most coveted winter attraction, Wintervention back for 2021. Civic Square will once again be transformed into an open-air ice-skating arena from Friday 25 June until Sunday 11 July over the school holiday period.

“Whether you’re a skater or a spectator, Wintervention is a family-friendly event designed to embrace the Canberra chill around entertainment, activities, food, and market stalls.” Malcolm Snow, CEO for the City Renewal Authority said.

“No other mainland city around the country has a winter like Canberra with enchanting frosty mornings and snow-covered mountains visible from the city centre. This event is a great chance to get out of our winter bunkers and experience what our city has to offer over the colder months.”

The rink is open 10am to 8pm Sundays on Thursdays, and 10am to 9pm Fridays and Saturdays. All visitors are required to book in for a skate session. The markets will run across two weekends, including Friday 25 to Sunday 27 June and Friday 2 to Sunday 4 July, and will welcome a range of fashion, art, craft and design stalls from local traders. Stars on Ice every are performing every Friday and Saturday at 1.45pm and 6.45pm and every Sunday at 1.45pm and 4.45pm.

Tikka Stand, Neat St. Coffee, La Empanada and Big River Distilling food stalls, along with daily music performances will keep City Square abuzz mid-week.

“The City Renewal Authority are also inviting businesses in the area to get involved. Businesses can submit winter inspired offers that will be displayed on the Wintervention website for visitors to enjoy over the event period.” Mr Snow said.

Tickets for the ice-rink are on sale now. Prices range from $10 to $20 and family bundles are available from $59.
