Covid may have wedged a gap between the communtiy and hospitality, yet we have not lost touch with our favourite local venues.

It was a rare sight to see Hopscotch on Lonsdale and Young & Frisky at Gungahlin Marketplace without bums in seats when both venues chose to close their doors during the peak of Covid. Us locals gave up a lot through lockdown, including the sudden stop to dildo racing and 50c wing Sundays!

Flash Burgers and Piccolo’s held down the fort for the group. Both business models are designed for takeaway and were able to hold their own through harsh restrictions and keep those still working in the city fed in a flash and pumped with coffee!

As of Thursday 28 May, Young & Frisky will be reopening! Hopscotch will follow in suite once restrictions are eased to 50 pax – our fingers are crossed for next week. When the Hoppy crew return to Lonsdale customers can expect a few tweaks. The team have spent the shutdown period polishing the venue from head to toe including new paint jobs and most importantly a few menu surprises. Hopscotch has been working on an Italian pub-style menu! A welcomed welcome home for us locals.

While restrictions have been a rollercoaster the Hoppy team have not given up hope on their rooftop venture. Located on Bunda street, the 2020 plan was to have the rooftop up and running before summer. Sadly, Covid has slowed everything down, yet the team are ambitious to come back with a banger new venue and kick this sucky year for hospitality in the butt with a shiny rooftop bar!

The rooftop venue which will occupy the top two levels of the iconic Canberra building which will look over Garema place and be the first ever exposed rooftop venue in Canberra.
