HOI POLLOI is a place for the people, designed by the people. Located in Old Parliament House, it’s where the Non-Members use to live – an infamous haunt of staffers, media and service workers alike.

The beautifully renovated and iconic restaurant, residing just off the House of Representatives Courtyard, is a superb casual dining venue. Fresh produce and local provenance is at the heart of HOI POLLOI’s continually evolving seasonal menus.

For the festive season HOI POLLOI will be bringing you the main event with a little something sweet on the side. But why do two courses when you have the option of three for $59.50/pp (bookings essential).

“For me, Christmas is all about coming together and celebrating with the people in our lives. That might be friends and family, or even the people you work with every day. Food is a key part of these celebrations so we have created a special festive menu to bring people together,” says Hoi Polloi Executive chef Roulan Habi.

The beauty of the menu is that it caters to all tastes and dietary requirements. With starters including grilled marinated chicken, Australian prawns or bocconcini and basil salad for greenie amongst the group.

“On our menus you will find classic Christmas favourites like turkey with cranberry sauce and crispy sage, and Christmas pudding with vanilla ice cream. No Aussie Christmas would be complete without prawns so we have a beautiful prawn entrée with a fresh cucumber salad.

A favourite main during the warmer summer months must be the pan-fried salmon fillet, potato fondant, green beans, citrus sauce and snow pea tendrils. But what would represent an Aussie Christmas more than a Slow roasted lamb with red wine jus, green zucchini, mashed potato and blistered tomato. Yum! My choice for the veggie option would have to be the house-made vegetable pie with mixed baby rocket and carrot puree!

However, the most festive options on the menu is the desert with fruit Christmas pudding, chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream, Christmas mince pie with icing and raspberry coulis, berry delight cake with vanilla ice cream and lemon sorbet with fresh mint! Can you see your childhood flashing before your eyes?

You don’t have to be a history buff to enjoy this spot, HOI POLLOI is a great place to relax and unwind, whilst enjoying an array of freshly prepared local foods.
