Using the buses in Canberra is going to cost you more.

From Saturday 20 January, fares for bus travel in the ACT will increase by up to 2.6 percent, with cash fares increasing between 10 and 20 cents.

Transport Canberra states this fare increase will help offset the cost of significant public transport improvements underway in Canberra, as well as increased operational costs.

The increase means MyWay users will pay $3.14 for a weekday single trip, with students and concession fares rising to $1.57.

Using cash will cost you $4.90 for a single trip and $9.40 for a daily fare.

Transport Canberra operations executive director David Matthews told Canberra Times the fares were competitive against the price of parking in Civic or the Parliamentary Triangle.
