The 4th stop in her nationwide tour, Indie rocker Adalita performed a mesmerizing set at Transit Bar last Thursday before a diverse and delighted crowd; keen to get a taste of her brand new album ‘All Day Venues’. This is Adalita’s second album after going solo from her band ‘Magic Dirt’ back in 2009.
The casual atmosphere and intimate, dark mood lighting set the scene for a relaxed evening, which was coupled with Adalita’s strong, cool vocals that resonated with such a distinctive tone that it created a dream like aurora on stage. Her smooth lyrics and easy listening songs had the crowd completely immersed in the moment, all in a slow, grooving sway – feeling the music and enjoying the experience. The tempo started this way, with the tracks being long and deep – leaving everybody in a trance, with sweet guitar riffs and an acoustic vibe of sorts.
Around halfway through the set however, things changed up quite a bit. The songs being played started to get a lot more ‘rock’ with the introduction of drums and most noticeably of all; noise. The mood of the night shook up and suddenly was raw and loud, with Adalita’s music suddenly reminiscent of Courtney Love’s band “Hole” leaving that 90’s grungy feel with some songs, and the energy of the crowd exploding as everything went more thrill, less chill.
The entire feel of the set was a juxtaposition of the two approaches to the album that Adalita has taken, there are 12 new tracks on the record on show that do for the audience as she had intended ‘to be a transformative experience’ There is a real journey to be had seeing Adalita live.
The album ‘All Day Venues’ is out now, the tour now heading north to Queensland, however don’t fret if you missed out, because Adalita said she’ll back in the Nation’s Capital soon enough, stay tuned for 2014.
