Happy first weekend of the great freeze! Yes, it’s Canberra winter but we urge you not to go into hibernation just yet because there are still a bunch of great events, experiences and performances going on around town. Here are 10 of our favourites this weekend.

 

Canberra Beer Runners run to GABS Festival at The Durham

5pm Saturday 3 June

The Canberra Beer Runners include both cardio and alcohol, reward your hard work with a cold one this Saturday night. This newly formed fitness group will be running a 2km loop then finishing at the GABS Beer Festival hosted by The Durham in Kingston. Paddles of beer are $15 and include 3 glasses of specialty beer.

 

Warm Soup & Cool Jazz at Olims Bar & Bistro

5pm Saturday 3 June

Olims Bar & Bistro in Braddon is indulging us with some of our favourite winter warmers. Including wine tastings, mulled wine, hot soup and live music from the Tilt Trip Band. This is the perfect way to start winter.

 

Plus 500 Brumbies vs Melbourne Rebels at GIO Stadium

7:45pm Kick-off Saturday 3 June

The Plus500 Brumbies are taking on the Melbourne Rebels for Round 15 on this Saturday night. Kicking off another home game at GIO Stadium, the Brumbies are going for the win to keep them toward the top of the ladder.

 

Canberra MCM (Mighty Car Mods) Meet at Exhibition Park in Canberra

10:30pm Sunday 4 June

This Sunday Exhibition Park will welcome Marty and MOOG from Mighty Car Mods – A YouTube channel famous for its instructional videos helping you to customise and improve your car. This event will allow patrons to bring their own vehicle and go in the running for the best and worst car awards.  There will be food, music, prizes, giveaways and an opportunity to hang out with other MCM enthusiasts.

 

The Canberra Theatre presents Talk By Jonathan Biggins

All weekend

Leading the show is Australian funny man John Waters, known for his charming performance as Darcy Proudman in Offspring. With an incredible cast behind him, the story follows a talkback radio host looking for the perfect story. Inspired by modern journalism, social media and the fast changing news, this story will unveil and explore hidden truths.
