Truffles. For such a strange little fungus they pack a lot of punch. You’d be surprised by their versatility – perfectly suited to your breakfast (served with eggs) or an indulgent dinner (think spatchcock or foie gras). However, the best thing about the tasty little tubers…?

It has to be beer and wine pairings… the opportunities are endless. Luckily, for all of us, The Truffle Festival – Canberra and Capital Region has a wide variety of events and occasions being offered by local bars, restaurant and wineries are sure to showcase a whole world of flavours you never thought possible.

Food and Wine pairings
Are you looking for something a little more substantial, here are a couple of idea that will allow you to enjoy your weekends with a selection of delicious winter flavours:

Lark Hill are offering market tours, wine tastings and lunch with winemaker Chris
Le Tres Bon has a truffle degustation matched with New World local wines on the menu (featuring Lerida Estate).

Truffled Beer
Yep. It’s a ‘thing’… and a delicious looking one at that, thanks to the new and old guard of Canberra’s brewing industry. Bentspoke Brewing Co has brewed a limited truffle-infused ale and will be serving specialty truffle dishes from their modern pub menu

Meanwhile, back in the city, the legendary Wig & Pen has prepared a unique spiced rum stout, named Sailor Dick’s in honour of an ex-staff member who has since joined the navy. This mildly sweet, very chocolaty beer was brewed with Australian molasses for a slight rum flavour, and will be infused with black truffles, vanilla, cinnamon and a series of other spices that will vary from week to week.

Sailor Dick’s will come on tap from the 12th of June along with three other seasonal stouts to make the best of Canberra winter.

It’s a whole lot of ‘yum’ and we’re getting very excited about heading out-and-about to taste some more of the incredible concoctions, inventions and sensations of the Truffle Festival –Canberra and Capital Region.
