Come late-September, keep an eye out for the new food truck rolling around Canberra with a mantra to live by:‘Eat Like It’s Your Day Off.’ Fares Bueller is a food van feeding the weekend/late crowd opening Friday & Saturday lunch til late and Sunday lunch. The eatery by co-owners Jad Hmaydan and Ismail Hammoud will offer unique Middle Eastern flavours incorporated in Western cult classics such as burgers and fries. Before thinking this is such ‘another’ burger joint, you’ll want to pay attention to this intriguing menu.

“Fares Bueller was built to provide a taste of the flavours we grew up with in a fresh and modern way,” says co-owner Jad. We’re not just providing food, we’re providing customers with an experience, which comes from our people’s love of life and the Lebanese culture, and their desire to bring that to every customer.”

The Fried Tawook burger isn’t your regular chicken burger. Think exotic Lebanese spiced chicken, bright pickled turnips and of course garlic aioli. The Kafta Cheeseburger will also turn heads; all the usual cheese burger staples like jack cheese, onion and pickles only this one has a spicy sauce over the carefully crafted wagyu kafta patty.

The vegetarian option is the Al Falafel, which is Lebanese bread wrapped around a family falafel recipe, fresh hummus, sumac onions and pickles. The loaded fries are smothered in Zaatar salt and Persian Feta; and for something sweet a famous Lebanese dessert Knafeh – only in French toast form!
