Canberra has a busy September ahead, with everything from an outdoor adventure race to a major makers market and a four-day festival in the bush.  

Here are three events we think you’ll want to know about this month.

 

The Women Only Adventure Race 

If your idea of a good day involves doing something a little unhinged with your best mate, the Women Only Adventure Race is calling. 

On 20 September, teams of two will tackle a mystery course around Canberra, combining around 5-6km of running or walking, 10km of mountain biking and 3km of kayaking.  

It’s designed for women of different fitness and experience levels, with a supportive, beginner-friendly focus on finishing together rather than chasing elite times. 

 

INFORMATION: 

Location: 291 Lady Denman Drive, Molonglo Valley 

Dates/Times: Sunday 20 September 2026, with the event running for approximately four hours. Start times are scheduled from around 8:00am. 

Ticketing/Booking: Entry is from $119 per person for early-bird tickets, with teams of two taking on a secret course involving mountain biking, running/walking, kayaking and navigation. Kayaking equipment is provided.

The Handmade Market 

The Handmade Market returns to Exhibition Park (EPIC) on 19 and 20 September, bringing together over 250 Australian designers, makers and food producers under one roof. 

Expect jewellery, fashion, ceramics, art, homewares, skincare and plenty to work through in the Gourmet Food Hall. 

Entry is free, and Sunday morning also includes a low-sensory shopping hour from 9am to 10am.

 

INFORMATION: 

Location: Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), Flemington Road, Mitchell 

Dates/Times: Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, 10:00am–4:00pm both days. A low-sensory shopping hour runs from 9:00am–10:00am on Sunday. 

Ticketing/Booking: Entry is free, with donations encouraged at the door. The market features 250+ Australian designers and producers, plus a dedicated gourmet food hall.

Dragon Dreaming Festival

If you’re ready to get out of town for a few days, Dragon Dreaming Festival returns to the banks of Lake Burrinjuck from 25 to 28 September. 

The four-day camping festival brings together electronic music, live bands, performances, art, workshops, markets and plenty of time by the water. 

There’s also a strong environmental focus, with festivalgoers invited to take part in native tree planting and other regeneration activities across the site. The festival is known for its relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community, with plenty of room to swim, explore and settle in for the weekend. 

 

INFORMATION: 

Location: Lake Burrinjuck, Wee Jasper, NSW 

Dates/Times: Friday 25 to Monday 28 September 2026. The festival begins from 12:00pm on Friday and runs across four days. 

Ticketing/Booking: Tickets are required for the four-day camping festival, with ticketing available through Humanitix. The festival brings together electronic music, live bands, art, markets, workshops and land regeneration, including native tree planting.
