It’s hard to believe, but it’s true. We are less than a month away from ‘The Race That Stops a Nation’.

On Tuesday 4 November 2014, Australians will break from their work, play or dedicated revelry to cheer as the world’s best run over 3,200 metres on the Flemington Track, in pursuit of this year’s $6.2 million in prize-money.

It’s a well-held tradition that Australians go all-out on ‘The First Tuesday in November’. It’s the one day of the year everyone uses a simple horse race as an excuse to dress up in their finest frock or suit and step out of the office and onto the track for a bit of fun.

This year, Thoroughbred Park in Canberra is putting on an even bigger show than previous years to celebrate the annual ACTTAB Melbourne Cup race day. For local racegoers, social butterflies and fashionistas alike, it’s a traditional day to mingle with other Canberrans (and possibly some interstaters), enjoy the live race program and watch the running of ‘The Cup’ on the big screen.

The Canberra Outlet Centre Fashions on the Field competition will of course return, adding lots of colour, fun and glamour to the day. There will be thousands of dollars in cash and prizes on offer in Classic Ladies and Classic Mens Racewear.

Feel like getting some friends together for a day out at the ACTTAB Melbourne Cup Race Day? There are plenty of options available that will suit any budget but you better be quick. Corporate bookings close on Tuesday 21 October, so don’t leave it too late!

Speaking of the Members why not join the Club? Young Memberships are only $60 per year and will have you strolling through the gates and straight in to the grandstand and members only areas. It’s excellent value, given the $85 cost for a one-off pass that gets you into all the areas on both ACTTAB Melbourne Cup day and the must attend Seppelt Black Opal Stakes day in March. It could be the smartest bet all carnival!

Gates open at 9.30am on the day and there will be plenty of entertainment through to the late afternoon, including live music by the Funky Fedoras.

Tickets are available from the gate ($25), from Ticketek www.ticketek.com.au. or (if you take up our earlier suggestion) become a Canberra Racing Club member at www.thoroughbredpark.com.au/membership. and entry will be free!
