ohnny Gio’s has opened its second Canberra store, bringing its brick-oven pizzas to Eyre Street in Kingston after making its ACT debut in Braddon last year, its first store outside New South Wales.

Since starting in Bondi in 2019, Johnny Gio’s has grown to 29 locations across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and the ACT.

From Bondi to Kingston

Founder Jonathan Faro started Johnny Gio’s in Bondi just before the pandemic, focusing on New York–Italian style thin, crispy pizzas made with quality ingredients and plenty of Italian influence.

The dough is hand-stretched fresh in store, with pizzas cooked to order in the brand’s signature brick ovens.

What to order

The Burrata Queen is the pizza people keep coming back for. Rich and creamy, it comes with pomodoro, cherry tomato, garlic confit and basil, topped with a 125g ball of burrata.

If you’re after some heat, the Sonny Honey has spicy ‘nduja, red onion, ricotta, basil and hot honey. Other popular picks include the Johnny Vodka, Prosciutto Papi, Tony Supremo, the classic Margherita and the Johnny Momma, which comes with Italian sausage, pepperoni and smoked provolone.

There’s more than pizza too, with sides, desserts and pasta including Johnny Gio’s vodka mac and cheese.

A Canberra connection

There’s a local link behind the expansion too. Multi-site manager Rocky Musolino has been making pizza for 50 years and has supplied pizzas to the Canberra Raiders for years.

Dine in or take it home

You can eat in, pick up your order or get it delivered through Johnny Gio’s online ordering, Uber Eats or DoorDash.

As the team puts it, “Consider this your invite. Bring the famiglia and come see what all the fuss is about.”
