After visiting the new and improved Casino Canberra just weeks ago we wanted to delve further into its refurbishment and talk about the grand plan for the site’s redevelopment.

To answer our questions, we looked no further than Canberra’s very own Chris Millman, Director of Cox Architects.

What is the expectation of the Casino Canberra re-development in its entirety?

The long term plan for the Casino site is a $300 million transformation of the city precinct with an integrated resort model. It will be a vibrant entertainment and lifestyle precinct, something that people will associate with the great food and dining offers, quality retail, somewhere you can relax and enjoy, any time of day.

It really would be an extension of City Walk and Glebe Park, and the rejuvenation of that part of the city, having synergies with the National Convention Centre and future stadium.

The future stages are comprised of:

• A new street connection off Coranderrk Street providing a connection through to City Walk and connecting the new precinct with the CBD.
• New casino and entertainment resort.
• New spa and gym facilities.
• New forecourt and food and beverage.
• New six-star luxury accommodation.
• New five-star boutique hotel.

To what extent has Casino Canberra been refurbished at this stage?

The Lobby, the ground floor gaming lounge, bar and restaurant have all been fully refurbished with high-end fittings and finishes. There are also some key upgrades to external signage, lighting and other amenities to refresh its presentation.

Guests will get a complete surprise; the space has been completely transformed. It brings a new level of luxury and entertainment to the Canberra market.

This refurbishment includes a lot of new entertainment options for the Canberra community that haven’t been available in the local market before. These include new food, beverage, lounge and gaming offerings, as well as a glamorous atmosphere.

What is the vision for the redevelopment?

The vision for the redevelopment is to create a quality precinct that offers a diverse and integrated experience whether you are there for a great meal out, a drink with friends, boutique hotel accommodation, shopping, music, to see a new show or to be entertained.

The result will appeal to the Canberra market and add to the inner-city experience and will be something that Canberrans will be proud of and will want to show off, as well as attracting national and international visitors to the ‘coolest little Capital’.
