You may have joked about it with friends on a bridge-to-bridge walk around the lake, but now it’s actually coming true…

Forget throwing your rods on the back of the ute en route to the Bay this weekend because Walt & Burley are bringing Canberra a local fishing comp called Carpe Diem at Lake Burley Griffin.

Partnering with Bentspoke Brewing Co and Otto’s Tackle World, Carpe Diem is an inaugural carp fishing competition hosted by Celebrity Fisherman Steve Starling. Not only will participants be embracing their fishing hobby right here in the Capital, they will also be cleaning up the mess.

The event reads: Give the native species of Lake Burley Griffin a chance to thrive by pulling out as many of the invasive carp as possible.

Who’s up for the challenge?

Teams of 2 or 4 can enter and kids are welcome to sign up too – nothing like parental bonding over a catch – even if you can’t eat it afterwards. Leave the food to Walt & Burley, tickets are $35pp which includes entry into the fishing comp, lunch and a Bentspoke tinnie on arrival. As for kids $10 will get them a chance to cast the rod, a burger and soft drink. And, if you’re just looking to fish without the feed, competition entry is $15pp.

For those who get a nibble, the team with the biggest carp by (length) and the most carp caught in total will be trophied and gifted a $200 bar tab for Walt & Burley and Tackle World gear.
