With the Seppelt Black Opal Stakes barely a month away, all eyes look towards the Myer Face of Canberra Racing competition. With an outstanding amount of entries this year, contestants will be searching for every advantage in order to walk away with this year’s title.

We sat down with Thoroughbred Park Marketing Manager, the dynamic Briony Young, to get the inside running on what the judges will be looking for during next week’s heats at Siren Bar in Gungahlin.

Tip 1. An understanding of fashion.
The Myer Face of Canberra Racing is an ambassador to Thoroughbred Park as well as a representative of the Myer brand, and will be expected to have an interest in fashion. Obviously this will be reflected in what she will wear in the competition and the judges will be on the lookout for style and sophistication.

Tip 2. Be the whole package.
Like any contestant in Fashions on the Field, the model must be immaculate, with polished nails, hair and makeup. Our Face is someone who is photographed a lot during the race day as well as doing live camera interviews, and its all in the presentation.

Tip 3. Accessories, accessories, accessories!
I cant stress how important these little things are! A matching clutch can set off the look, the right shoes and perfect hat or fascinator can grab the judge’s attention.

Tip 4. Your application is also key.
We are looking for someone who is classy, who can exude confidence and who is keen to play a part in an awesome competition that has now 6 years running. When sending in your pictures make sure your photos are clear (and no ‘selfie’s!). We want to see healthy fun-loving ladies who enjoy getting out and meeting people and taking part in a great competition.

Tip 5. Enjoy yourself.
We aren’t scary people! Previous competitors will tell you how they have met great friends and experienced the glamour and excitement of what racing is about. Even if you don’t make the top 10, everyone gets a ticket to the Seppelt Black Opal Stakes to enter the Myer Fashions on the field – in which some girls have placed and even won!

Thank you Briony!
