Spring Racing is back and no doubt the TAB Melbourne Cup at Thoroughbred Park will be a race carnival to remember. The first Tuesday of November (Tuesday 5 November) is highly anticipated every year; thoroughbreds race around the track and bring the biggest day of local racing and the nation stops at 3pm, holding their breath and hoping they hedged their bets on the front-runner.

Gates open at 10.30am with local race giddyup by 11.15am. Watch the iconic TAB Melbourne Cup in Flemington from the big screen at Thoroughbred Park, while having a punt on a local horse too.

Style is another kind of excitement abuzz that day where we see Canberrans really turn on their flair. Fashions on the Field will be run on the day; for those channelling their inner show pony you can register on the day or hope to be scouted by the expert judges. There will be an overall winner in the Classic Ladies Racewear and Classic Mens Racewear, plus runner up prizes. Click here for more information.

The TAB Melbourne Cup Race Day is arguably one of the biggest social events on the calendar. From racing fans, corporate gatherings, socialites and fashionista’s alike, a day on the track is always a day to remember. You can stay on the right side of the track in the Silk Room – one of Thoroughbred Park’s superb dining options, the best way to enjoy the races from a beautifully presented room with air-conditioning, overlooking the track and winning post.

Or, watch the race with the cheering crowds, tickets are now available for general admission and can be purchased at the door.

The raceday partying continues well after the race. Transport Canberra will be providing free chartered services, so you can get to the after party with ease! Buses will be running from Thoroughbred Park to the City Bus Station, diverting to the official after-race day venue The Duxton, O’Connor between 4pm and 7.30pm.
