From Canberra’s powerhouse group that has bought you Akiba, Sage and Kokomo’s, comes a new and exciting dining venture, Loquita – an experimental Mexican bar and eatery with a strong emphasis on mezcal and tequila.

First sneak peak inside

Taking over from Honkytonks in Garema Place, the HARVAC Group are bringing the space back to life with elevated Mexican flavours and stunning interiors by Capezio Copeland.

“We feel Canberran’s hunger for exotic dining experiences,” Owner, Mr Harrington says. “Our goal has always been to breathe life into Canberra’s dining scene, and we know we can achieve that though authentic food experiences, delivered in an upbeat way while locals are missing travel.”

Taking on the role as Executive Chef, James Viles (ex Biota) who also delivered Sage’s most recent Taste & Test, will join Head Chef, Brendan Hill (ex Aria & 12-Micron) to deliver a progressive and authentic menu. Marrying traditional flavours and techniques with the HARVAC flair, we are told the menu is nothing like we’ve seen in Canberra. As they steer away from fast-food Mexican chains.

“Loquita is an incredible addition to Canberra’s diversely populated dining scene. It’s always exciting to bring regional Mexican flavours with modern ideas to a city we know will appreciate it,” Viles says.

“Diners can expect plates that adapt or entirely reinvent the genre, with a heavy focus on coal fired cooking resulting in smoky flavours across the menu.”

Bought to life by native ingredients that focus on the distinctive flavours of Mexican’s vibrant regions, the tacqueria-style food will feature dishes like slow-cooked beef ribs, spit-roast pork and tempura fish.

Loquita is soft launching from today and is accepting walk-ins only for the first fortnight, with the official opening Mid-August.
