Most people feel off the rails in the minutes before midnight, but on Tuesday morning there were several eager members of Canberra’s metro team waiting to witness the light rail’s first trial in the black of the night. Travelling at a snail’s pace of 5kmh, the rail was taken for its first spin around the tracks just before midnight – well, sort of, it was actually towed. The venture began at the depot in Mitchell (where we hear all the shenanigans occur at this hour) and finished off in Gungahlin. The test was predominantly to trial the tilt of the tram and also give the brakes a good ol’ workout. Skrr Skrr.
Like a thief in the night the light rail hits the tracks
