Born from a love of producing (and drinking) home brews, Cypher Brewing Co. has been working hard to bring Gungahlin its first brewery.

Run by a team of locals who are committed to creating great beer by pushing the boundaries, having fun and working around the preference of customers, Cypher is finally ready to show Canberra what they’ve been working on.

Opening this weekend on Saturday 15 April from 11am, it’s the perfect excuse to grab your mates, sip on new brews and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. With the light rail also at your disposal, there’s no need to argue over who has to be the designated driver.

With 12 taps pouring a range of beers from ales, lagers, malts and hops including one of co-founder Jeff Wilson Shipley’s very first brews he perfected at home, try one or try them all and find your preferred flavour.

Accompanying and elevating the beers will also be a pub-style menu, with a small selection available over the weekend.

However, if you only try one thing, we’re told it has to be Firesprite – Cypher’s red IPA and a favourite of Jeff’s.

“My favourite beer and one of the reasons I started a brewery was that I couldn’t get a good red IPA in Canberra,” he says.

“Our head brewer has a lot of old school recipes but is trying to put a new age twist on it. We’re going to play around with it and try a range of beers, we don’t want to corner ourselves into anything straight away.”

Excited to contribute and be part of Canberra’s growing brewery scene, Cypher is sure to become a new hotspot for the Gungahlin area.

“I’ve always had a love for beer but it’s also the general experience that also goes with it. It’s not so much the flavour and the taste even though that’s pretty important, it’s around the atmosphere and experience,” says Jeff.

Brewing not just for themselves, Cypher is also adamant about creating beers according to what their fellow beer lovers want. Whether that be more hops, a summer brew, or more non-alcoholic options.

With more to come in later months, including live music, outdoor seating, merch and canned beers available to buy online and in-store, Cypher is only just getting started.

Cypher Brewing Co. is located at Unit 3/35 Hinder St Gungahlin and will be open from 11am to 11pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
