International women’s day is a time for people of every gender to appreciate the empowerment, involvement, education, health, and equality of women around the world. During the month of March, Canberra will be holding a huge range of events for you to get involved with the community and support women!

There’s something for everyone, with events including morning teas, bunches, luncheons, dinners, seminars, fundraisers, panel discussions, award ceremonies, classes, presentations, and even a free flight simulator!

Most International Women’s Day events are completely free for you to enjoy, though some require tickets. Find more events, information, and tickets here.

We’ve put together a list of our three favourite Women’s Day events for you and your girl gang to get together, get involved, and celebrate women.

BUBBLY BREAKFAST FOR BREAST CANCER AT WALT & BURLEY

Held on Sunday 8thMarch from 7:30am – 9:30am, Walt & Burley’s Bubbly Breakfast for Breast Cancer invites you to celebrate International Women’s Day over bubbly, breakfast canapes, and blooms. Enjoy a mimosa on arrival to kickstart the day followed by tables to graze, tea and coffee and mingling with women from all walks. You’ll be inspired by guest speaker and author Lisa Portolan with more to be announced!

FREE SIMULATOR FLIGHTS FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS

If you’re interested in an aviation career or just want to have fun flying a B737 simulator, come along to Jet Flight Simulator Canberra at 10am – 3pm in Lyneham on Sunday 8thMarch. Women and girl will have the opportunity to test flights for free in the B737 simulator. You’ll also have the opportunity to talk to Air Force personnel about careers and talk to private pilots about learning to fly. With refreshments available, it’s an exciting, educational, and empowering for the whole family.

YOGA FUNDRAISER FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CRISIS SERVICE

On Sunday 8thMarch, Flourish Yoga in Braddon is holding an International Women’s Day yoga class to raise funds to the Domestic Violence Service. Yoga is a great way to meet and build a supportive community, connect, reflect and take a non-violent approach to your own self-care and your interactions with others. Running from4:30pm – 6pm, the class will use a Yin/Yang style practice with a trauma-sensitive approach. You can expect mindful movement, restorative stillness and deep nervous system regulation and regeneration.

Each ticket for the IWD Embodying the Wild Within Yin Yang Yoga Class will donate $5 to the Domestic Violence Crisis Service.
