Barton is not an area well known its cafés – for too long good coffee options have been few and far between. However, this morning Lonsdale Street Roasters came to the rescue with a takeover of Hotel Kurrajong’s café – serving free coffees all day to local office workers.

The hotel – steeped in history as it is – provides the perfect venue for Lonsdale Street Roasters’ latest blend, the Ben Chifley. Developed solely for Hotel Kurrajong, the coffee celebrates one of the hotel’s most famous residents, former Prime Minister Ben Chifley who spent his time in office (and much of that after) living in there rather than in The Lodge.

This morning, however, the Hotel was abuzz with the sounds of coffee grinders and early morning coffee-lovers making the pilgrimage from the office to grab a free brew and snack on some of the free pastries provided by Flute Bakery. While the wait may have been a little longer than usual thanks to the crowds taking advantage of the launch offer, the hotel’s courtyard made for the perfect place to sit in the warming sun and catch up on office chit-chat while the staff worked double-time to keep the orders moving through.

Be sure to get down to Barton today (Tuesday 26 November) to take advantage of the free coffee promotion. Although this a one-off event, Hotel Kurrajong will continue to pour the Ben Chifley blend on an ongoing basis, so there will be plenty of opportunity for coffee fanatics and nearby workers alike to drop in and grab a taste of Canberra’s latest coffee blend.
