Haig Park is already a solid Sunday morning plan. Coffee, market stalls, something warm to eat and a wander under the trees. 

But this weekend, the usual market mood is getting a very enthusiastic, tail-wagging upgrade. 

City Renewal Canberra and the Haig Park Village Markets are hosting a special Paws Party, giving Canberra’s dogs a morning of games, play and zoomies in the park. And yes, your four-legged housemate is absolutely the guest of honour. 

 

Burn off that puppy energy 

Anyone with a dog knows the look. The one that says, “I have been inside for too long and I am about to make that everyone’s problem.” 

Luckily, Haig Park is setting up a dedicated dog-friendly zoomies zone with games and activities designed to help pups burn off some energy. It’s the perfect excuse to let them run wild and make a few new mates while you stand back with a coffee. 

 

Games for people and low-key lounging 

Good news, you don’t need a tail to get involved too.  

There will be lawn games for the humans, including pickleball, badminton and cornhole, so you can challenge your friends, your family or a stranger who looks a little too confident. 

And if you’re content with just watching the dogs do the running, there will also be a chill zone where you can sit back, sip your coffee and let the pups handle the cardio. 

 

Live tunes, crafts, and market treats 

The morning will also feature live tunes from local star Wayne Kelly, who will be spinning the soundtrack for the morning to keep the atmosphere lively.  

If you’ve got kids in tow, there will be a creation station with crafts to keep them busy. And because it’s all happening alongside the Haig Park Village Markets, you can still grab a pastry, stock up on local produce or pick up an artisanal treat for your dog because, well, they deserve it.  

It’s free, it’s dog-friendly and it’s a very good reason to get out of the house on a winter Sunday.
