If there’s one band in this country who has sold in excess of half a million albums, singles, DVDs collectively across their relatively short career, it’s the always get on ya feet and dance, The Cat Empire!

EMI Music Australia is proud to announce that Melbourne’s own The Cat Empire have re-signed with the label and set to celebrate their successful 6 year relationship with the release of their fourth studio album Cinema on Friday June 25.

The band’s first official single ‘Feeling’s Gone’ will be unleashed to media everywhere on May 10, with a digital release on May 14. Can’t hold off til then? A brand new album track ‘Beyond All’ can be heard across the Triple J network right now!

Recorded, produced and mixed at Melbourne’s Sing Sing Studios with producer Steven Schram (Little Birdy, The Custom Kings, Little Red), Cinema saw the band collaborate on tracks, with a number of songs written for the first time by the entire band. Felix explains the album …“At times it’s thoughtful, at other times it makes you want to just forget and dance. It’s got more sonic depth than what we’ve recorded before. It’s very experimental in parts but it also has some really simple direct chorus’. It’s going to be a great album to play live, especially on big stages and at festivals.”

Which is exactly what the band will do next. Kicking off their world tour in North America in July, the guys will fine tune their new songs to hit the home ground stages August/September, before jetting off to Europe for October and Japan in November.

In case you weren’t aware, The Cat Empire sell more live tickets internationally than any other contemporary Australian band. In fact, the band will play their 800th show in 2010! The Australian leg of the tour, presented by Triple J will hit the road throughout August and September, covering all corners of the land from Perth to Cairns to Coolangatta and everywhere in between. Tickets go on sale Monday April 26.

What can fans expect? “A new kind of show; bigger than ever, big choruses, big instrumental sections and songs that bring out the best in the musicians in the band. I think our shows are going to bring the audience with us more than ever,” says lead singer Felix Reibl.

Also on the road to create a whole lotta music and fun are soul band Clairy Baby Browne and the Bangin’ Rackettes (“busting out some of the dirtiest doo-wop I have ever seen or heard… I was beginning to wonder how a band this classy existed.”) AND Mama Kin (“Sure to set your soul on fire”). The Cat Empire has chosen these bands for their spectacular stage shows and phenomenal musicianship. Dancing shoes essential!
