Whether you work in trendy public relations office or formal finance, here are some tips to looking your best during Summer.

Firstly, to avoid any awkward sweaty patches opt for garments made of light-weight fabrics like cotton and linen in neutral and khaki colours. When incorporating bright colours work them below your waist with skirts, pants or shoes.

A-line skirts and dresses with a hem that sits just above the knee are great during Summer. They provide a professional look by keeping you cool without baring too much skin. Pants also work if you wear them with a loose fitting shirt tucked in. You can also work casual pieces into your normal work attire by pairing a nice t-shirt with a pencil skirt, or perhaps a dark-wash pair of jeans with a capped sleeved business shirt.

Avoid spaghetti-strapped and strapless dresses and other styles that reveal too much of the chest, shoulders and back. Also, be careful about the fabric choice; thin, barely-there sundresses should be saved for the weekend. Also stay away from tank tops, golf shirts, mini skirts and bathing suits under your clothes. If you look like you’re ready for the beach, you do not belong at the office!

Shorts have never been appropriate for the workplace, however, wearing a pair in the right style, length, fit and colour combined with the rest of your look will work. Make sure they are NOT too tight and the hem sits at the middle of your thigh or lower towards the knee. Pair this with a shirt, blazer and ballet flats and you have the perfect Friday look.

When it comes to shoes – apart from boots – you can wear many styles all year round. To match a summery look, sandals with a medium wedge or an opened-toe heel work better than flats helping to make your outfit suitable for the office and not like a weekend barbeque. Just make sure your tootsies are perfectly manicured.

Lastly, the best (and most affordable) way to brighten your look for the new season is with accessories such as necklaces and bangles. Light makeup is also a great way to feel fresh using a delicate pink blush or bright red or coral lip for colour.
