Known for her impeccable style and perfectly-put-together looks, Sarah Kelly is a fashion consultant and business owner who we believe is undoubtedly one of Canberras Most Stylish People of 2013.

With a wardrobe that is the envy of many, Sarah is often seen gracing the Melbourne Cup Fashions on the Field and we have always adored her upmarket high-street fashion sense and styling abilities.

We recently sat down with Sarah to chat all about her style, including highlights of 2013. We got the scoop on which fashion brands she wears and the trends Sarah loves

1. Who are your style icons?

I have many different style icons. Each acquires different looks that I love to incorporate into my wardrobe. They include, Diana Vreeland, Coco Chanel, Miroslava Duma, Christine Centenera and Iris Apfel.

2. Is there a particular fashion style that you follow?

For me, I always fall in love with the trend of the moment and love to adopt a piece each season to reflect that. I am always drawn to a bold print, lots a colour and also taking in monochrome, shift and t-shirt dresses, leather pants, jumpsuits in a variety of styles, shoe boots, wedges and heels heels heels! I always seem to come back to a 60s look, which I think is both playful and elegant. Oh, and in my opinion, there can never be too much fur!

3. What were your fashion highlights for 2013?

There have been a variety. Firstly, the dress I bought from Canberra designer Suzan Dlouhy at Fashfest was a considerable highlight as it was a dress that I find so original, yet so ‘me’ at the same time. I have really loved wearing it throughout the year. Secondly, throughout winter 2013 I lived in my Camilla and Marc leather pants which I always coupled with Kenzo accessories.

The Melbourne Cup this year was another fashion highlight I fell in love with London-based designer Roksanda Illincic and wore one of her dresses. As a designer, in my eyes she has perfected ‘the dress’- always combining interesting textures in her fabrics with fabulous colours finished with a perfect cut.

Furthermore, I would have to say another highlight was wearing a very hot pink dress by Cameo the Label, I feel great in it which makes it so addictive – I know I will be wearing for years to come.

4. What are you most enjoying wearing at the moment?

At the moment? Logos and lips! More specifically, I am loving and living in my Etre Cecile T-shirt dress and everything Kenzo, who have captured their lion-and-eye motif trend so well.

My Diane Von Furstenburg Carolina Lips clutch and wallet have been getting lots of use this past year. The gold lips are enormous and remind me of pop-art every time I use them. I love that it takes me back to an era that I adore and fits in well with my existing wardrobe.

5. What trends do you love to see and wear?

I never seem to tire of abstract floral and pops of colour. Seeing so much black on the streets is tiring, so seeing pops of colour is such a breath of fresh air. I also love structure in the shoulder with some perfect draping. Jumpsuits for me are the answer to everything – they can be fun and flexible for the day, elegant and so 70s for the night. Ultimately, the one item I cannot live without is the cape as I truly believe it’s the new trench. The cape transforms any outfit, and I’ve certainly lived in mine all year simply because its so versatile, flattering and a perfect transeasonal piece.

6. What are some of your favourite brands and why?

Globally, I look to Chanel for obvious reasons – its history and style coupled with timeless elegance. Karl Lagerfeld – as he is simply iconic and I think what he has done for Chanel is incredible. On a more local scale, I am a big lover of Australia designers, so Camilla and Marc, Sass and Bide and Cameo the Label are some of my favourites predominantly because they are all timeless, yet edgy and creative brands.

With such precise perfection and attention to detail, Sarah Kelly is a true fashionista. While she is a lover of all things colour, bold prints and fur, she also purchases and wears styles that suit her head to toe. Sarah is a local fashion icon, and we definitely look forward to seeing what amazing new looks and trends she flaunts in 2014.
