It will be all about rascals and ratbags at the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra this weekend.

The Mint is taking the minting experience to towns and cities around Australia on its Rascals & Ratbags Roadshow – but before it hits the highway, the tour will be launched at a special event on Saturday 12 May.

The event will feature pop-up stalls where the public can strike a special ‘Australia’ counterstamp onto a $1 Rascals & Ratbags uncirculated coin, swap existing coins or cash for freshly minted 2018 coins and special circulating coins, and browse a selection of current release commemorative coins, including new products released in April and May.

This year’s tour theme, Rascals & Ratbags, commemorates Australia’s convict era, paying homage to the contributions of convicts to Australia’s history, heritage and folklore.

The tour kicks off in Canberra before heading to Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia between May and November.

The launch is on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
