Sydney Dance Company returns to the Canberra Theatre Centre to perform its stunning new double bill of works by Rafael Bonachela – Between Breath & Form – from 5-7 May in the Canberra Theatre.

Artistic Director and choreographer Rafael Bonachela has once again joined forces with his frequent collaborator – the renowned Italian composer Ezio Bosso – in the presentation of two major dance works – 6 Breaths and LANDforms. Canberra audiences will be the first to see LANDforms direct from its acclaimed season in Sydney.

Bosso’s potent string-based score was a highlight of the acclaimed 2009 production we unfold, which launched Bonachela’s new role as Artistic Director of the Company. In 6 Breaths, created in 2010, Bonachela took his intricate choreographic language and fused it to a score written by Bosso for six cellos and a piano to create a piece that celebrates the act of breathing as the very spirit of life.

Reflecting on these two works – one inspired by the oceans (water) and the other by the act of breathing (air), Bonachela and Bosso found that these two unpremeditated connections had led them to their next collaboration – LANDforms – which takes as its inspiration from the earth, the powerful contrasts of the landscape and the effects of the weather elements on the land.
