It’s no secret Canberrans love a good burger, 

and luckily for us, there is a wide variety of burger oriented restaurants to choose from all over Canberra with a large selection of these burger joints all located within walking distance of each other in the city. All different from each other standing out in their own ways, designing their own signature burgers and fries to stand out from the crowd, which makes it harder to decide where to eat. 

It has become a battle of the burgers.

Burger hero

Burger hero is a unique burger dining experience on Mort st, in Braddon, putting a creative spin on a classic burger joint. Their menu includes everything from the classic cheeseburger to some of the most extravagant creations seen in Canberra so far.

If you’re brave enough, order one of their freak burgers, like the Karaage ramen, a burger filled with ramen crispy chicken and rainbow slaw, or a Double Barrel which includes vanilla glazed doughnuts, double smash patties and streaky bacon. Or, you can create your own! Select from a wide variety of ingredients and build your perfect burger.

Grease monkeys

Grease Monkeys is a fan favourite first opening in the heart of Braddon, it is strictly greasy, serving burgers, fried chicken and the new Detroit style pizzas. This is not the place for a healthy Sunday brunch, the recipes for their burgers were in development for months before their grand opening in  2015. 

 

Some of their signature burgers include the Dirty bird, which includes southern fried chicken and greasy’s special sauce, the Sea Monkey, which includes crumbed fish and tangy slaw, or The Parmy, a burger filled with chicken schnitzel, streaky bacon, mozzarella sticks, aioli and Napoli sauce!

Flash eats

Flash Eats is Canberra’s new superhero-themed permanent food truck located in the back alley of Civic’s Bible Lane, they are here to save you when you’re hungry, need a good burger, and need it in a flash! They have the ability to pump out 80 burgers in five minutes, and up to 50 serves of chicken in 10 minutes. 

 

Their simple menu consists of burgers with bold flavours, such as their own twist on the cheeseburger and the double cheeseburger with their secret flash sauce, as well as their vegan option, using a beyond meat pattie, and the flash stack, with some extra juicy fillings.

Betty’s Burgers

Betty’s burgers the new kid on the block was first established on Noosa Beach in 2014 and is a 1950’s style burger shack restaurant that specialises in fresh, juicy burgers and their signature concretes, which are frozen vanilla or chocolate custard mixed in with a variety of delicious mix-ins with options like the peanut butter brittle, cookie butter and lemon raspberry cheesecake.

 

You can try their signature Betty’s classic, a classic Angus beef burger with Betty’s special sauce, The Betty’s classic vegan, which uses a crispy fried brown rice and vegetable patty and spicy mayo, or their new Noosa Classic surf, which includes lightly battered prawns.

Mookie

Mookie burgers is Canberra’s very own American style burger joint with a Japanese twist, located in Genge st. known for pushing the burger boundaries, their American cheesy loaded fries and their own twist on the classic concrete. Their menu ranges from the classic American Mookie cheeseburger, the Truffle grilled chicken burger, which includes grilled chicken breast and Mookie truffle aioli or test your taste buds with the Mr. Miyagi, which includes grilled pork belly, creamy sesame slaw kewpie mayo, handcrafted pickles and pork crackling.
