Rubix Cuba

Rubix Cuba is more than an 80’s fad and a communist country. It’s also more than a 7 piece Aussie Ska band from Newcastle. Rubix Cuba is a feel-good visual and aural feast for the soul. It’s a steaming hot lead singer, fondly referred to as ‘Princess Jasmine,’ 7 equally cool cucumbers and a giant dancing rubix cube.

The Cubans have been playing the live circuit enthusiastically for almost 10 years, and now with more than 600 live shows under their belt, Rubix Cuba has hit the roads on their east coast tour and announced the release of their debut album.

Come to save the day

Sweaty singing indie-pop DJ, Muscles, will be bringing the sunshine back to Canberra with his feel good anthems and edgy beats, when he performs at Friction’s B.A.D (Back Alley Disco) on Friday 28th of March at Academy.

Muscles has had a massive 2007, busting out hits such as ‘Sweaty’ and ‘Ice Cream,’ releasing his debut LP, touring the US with Soulwax, playing the Wireless Festival in the UK, supporting Daft Punk on their Never Ever Land tour and playing at Canberra’s Foreshore Music Festival.

Unspeakable by Quantum Leap

Unspeakable, louder than words was performed by Quantum Leap, the Australian Choreographic Centre’s youth ensemble at the Canberra Playhouse from the 1st-4th of August to full arenas.

Directed by artistic director Ruth Osborne and her assistant Vivienne Rogis, Unspeakableinvolves 36 young dancers ranging in age from 12 to 25, in work that has been commissioned from four emerging choreographers; Alice Holland, Paul Cordeiro, Marko Panzic and Vicki van Hout.

National Belgian Day

You weren’t anywhere on Saturday 21st of July unless you were on the streets of Kingston at the Belgian Beer Café enjoying the festivities, sounds, smells and sights of National Belgian Day.

Complete with a traditional horse and carriage, the venue was packed with jolly patrons, the clinking of beer mugs and the tantalizing smell of marinated mussels.

A talented jazz trio set the scene with heavenly tunes, spilling their sounds out onto the leafy Jardine Street sidewalk.
