Atlantis Awaits @ Holy Grail

Ears were buzzing as the heavy sound of Atlantis Awaits reverberated from the walls of a sweaty Holy Grail. The local alternative rock band are quickly garnering a strong following and their debut E.P launch show proved this.

Before the headliners rocked out, it was first the turn of another two rising bands; Hands like Houses and Retraspec. During their sets the crowd were receptive and showed their appreciation for bands, all of which are strengthening the ever-growing Canberra rock music scene.

Indian cures winter blues

It was on a cold winter’s night that my dining partner and I ventured to Bollywood Dimensions – Canberra’s first Bollywood entertainment restaurant, situated in the heart of Braddon, and opposite the ever busy Crust Pizza.

It wasn’t long after we were seated that a mixed entree selection of assorted tandoor was served. The meat was tender and full of flavour – one of my favourite things about Indian food is how well the flavours fuse with whatever meat is being served.

Local engineers go from science to street wear

Fashion and science may seem like two things that have little correlation, but for a group of local ANU engineering students, it’s been the source of success.

Since ‘Cyanide’ was launched as a university project earlier this year, it’s evolved into a local business, with the young engineers channelling their love of science into bright slogans on tees and hoodies.

Daniel Kiley is one fourth of Cyanide (completed by Brad, Nathan and Ewen) and places great emphasis on the brand’s green values.

What makes wines at Mount Majura special?
We make wine only from our own vineyard, and we want it to be distinctive. The red soil and limestone give deeply coloured reds with some really good ‘grainy’ tannin and powerful fruit flavours to match. Tempranillo is our specialty variety that does really well.

What interests you the most about wine and its ‘making’ processes?
It’s a centuries-old craft and you rely on your nose and palate and experience, but at the same time, there is a lot of science and technology applied so that we’re constantly learning.
