Frocktober hits Canberra next month

Hold onto your petticoats because Frocktober is on its way! The month-long charity event that raises money and awareness for ovarian cancer is finally coming to Canberra, thanks to the commitment of a small group of local frockaholics.

Frocktober puts forward a challenge to girls, women and interested men far and wide, to don a frock for a day, week, fortnight or a full month during October, and get sponsored for it.

Canberra Nara Candle Festival

Join in the celebration of Japanese culture at the Canberra Nara Candle Festival. This year’s Festival marks the 17th anniversary of the Canberra-Nara sister city relationship and the 1300th anniversary of Japan’s first capital, Nara.

Enjoy six hours of free entertainment, with the Rhythm Hunters headlining the program with their dramatic physical drumming performances.

Martial arts demonstrations, calligraphy, origami and kids craftwork are activities for the entire family to enjoy at this year’s Festival.

Local designer, ‘a Little Mad Hatter’

Canberra student and fairytale lover, Una Park, likes little hats.

Driven by the excitement of the Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Una dreamed up her own way to pay homage to the fairytales she loves so dearly, creating Little Mad Hatters.

“I have always been dreaming of creating something unique and beautiful, and suddenly thought – mini hats!”

Little Mad Hatters offer beautiful millinery in playful colour concepts and adorable styles, inspired by years of hat-watching.

Headspace 10: Self/reflections

Headspace 10: Self/reflections is a national secondary school student art exhibition. We invited school based art educators from all states and territories to work with their secondary school level students to explore the Headspace 10 theme, Self/reflections, through portraiture. The work could be in any media and can explore the possibilities of portraiture in the broadest sense.

Works from schools from Years 7/8 through to Year 12 were submitted for consideration, by a panel, for inclusion in the exhibition.
